Spectator stand of the stadium in Nyíregyháza unexpectedly collapsed – PHOTOS, VIDEO
On Saturday, the citizens of Nyíregyháza were scared by a sudden, extremely loud rumbling that resembled an earthquake.
According to ATV, it turned out that the main spectator stand in the Nyíregyháza stadium had unexpectedly collapsed. Several people living in the vicinity were so scared, the firefighters’ line was busy.
Luckily, the first responders did not have to intervene as no one was injured, but many people, even from farther away in the city, complained about the eardrum-busting rumble.
There has been ongoing construction work in the stadium as part of a project that aimed to renew the stadium of Nyíregyháza. Still, locals said that no one notified them about the upcoming demolition, nor they were told to expect the noise.

According to the Hungarian Disaster Management authorities, the collapse of the main spectator stand was conducted as part of a planned demolition. Still, a local representative of an opposition party said that the part of the stadium that collapsed should have been included in the new building, reported Szeretlekmagyarország.
The development of the Nyíregyháza football facility is implemented within the framework of the National Stadium Development Program with the support of the Hungarian Government. The new stadium would look like this:
According to Nyíregyháza.hu, the BMSK Zrt. was approximately on schedule, maybe a week late as it was said that the company would start the demolition of the large metal and concrete structure elements on the third week of the construction, which began around early September.
They also said the following: “The contractor will carry out the noise inducing activities on working days, as promised, paying special attention to the observance of noise and vibration protection regulations and the uninterrupted operation of road traffic.”
Due to the unusual time of the demolition, which happened at 7 p.m. on Saturday, contrary to the contactor’s promise, and the fact that the residents were not notified about the noise and the demolition beforehand suggests that the collapse of the western spectator stand was inadvertent or maybe a mishap.
Several locals who noticed the collapse of the spectator stand have recorded footage of the events. The lack of construction personnel and machinery might further suggest that the failure was unintentional.
ATV tried to contact the city hall and the construction’s investor about the unexpected events, but none has reached out to the news portal to publish their article.
Fortunately, no one was hurt during the incident.
